Our region is hosting a number of online and in-person events.
In celebration of Small Business Week we want to reach out with informative sessions for business from subject matter experts to aid businesses in the planning, marketing and operations of their businesses. There will be discussions on how to grow or pivot your business to thrive. Check back to this page often to see the schedule and to register for all the sessions.

Discover how to create a collaborative environment where everyone is responsible for design. You will go through design challenges and sprints that can be incorporated into any workplace or startup, to unlock creativity and innovative thinking.

A Conversation with Mark Shields

Small Business Strategist with Business Link - Webinar

Mark Shields will join us in conversation discussing the hopes, fears and dreams in the current economic state with entrepreneurs within the province, whether its COVID pressures, government supports, or the market they are doing business in that he has been seeing in general. 

 

Mark is a Business Strategist who approaches issues with a diverse background and wealth of experience. His business pursuits have included yoga instruction and event creation and promotion. He has studied accounting and history academically and sits as the treasurer for both the Major Minor Music Project and Calgary Can.

 

Prior to joining Business Link he helped plan, execute and operate the emergeHUB economic development project in east Calgary where he worked directly with growing businesses and was drawn to the problem-solving inherent in entrepreneurship. Mark is deeply motivated by the opportunity to build communities by facilitating interactions between people.

A Conversation with Todd Hirsch

Vice President and Chief Economist for ATB Financial - Webinar

Todd Hirsch returns to the WC to present and do Q&A on the state of the economy and provide insight as to where everything may be going.

He holds degrees in economics from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary. For over 25 years, he’s worked as an economist at numerous organizations including the Canada West Foundation and the Bank of Canada.

​He’s also the author of three books. His latest, “Spiders in Space: Successfully Adapting to Unwanted Change,” was released in 2017. Todd is a strong advocate in the arts and culture community. He is the board chair of the Calgary Arts Academy, and serves on the boards of the Glenbow Museum and the Alberta Ballet.​
