Planning for Growth Together

This spring we are planning for our future.

We need a vision for our open space, recreation and culture services that meet the varied needs and desires of the Hamlets, communities and County residents.

We’ve got some big choices ahead and we need your advice.

Our County isn’t just thinking about tomorrow, next month or the end of 2020. We are ready to design a plan for the long-term, and we need your advice on how to do it. We are working to create spaces and opportunities for you to share your experiences, hopes and suggestions about Wheatland County’s recreation services, facilities, parks and open spaces, and how each could evolve and change to better meet the needs of your community today and in the future.

So, let's talk!

It is time to start the process of linking the future we want with the planning decisions we make today.  As a first step, we’ve grouped together the County’s current stock of open spaces, recreational facilities and cultural opportunities that community residents like yourself are currently enjoying.

Wheatland County’s Plan

So how did we get here?

Wheatland County is developing an Open Space, Recreation and Culture Master Plan that will provide guidance to Council and Administration in making innovative and practical decisions that will support the needs of the community through to 2030.

The Master Plan will provide the County with a framework to manage its open spaces, programs, events, facilities and amenities in a cost-effective manner, while providing guidance for future open space planning, facility development and expansion, program and service delivery opportunities.

We need you. Your feedback and comments about priorities and preferences will help the County support its plan for a bigger and better decade.

Where are we now?

Wheatland County is working to engage residents and interested stakeholders of Wheatland County in a conversation about the open spaces and recreational and cultural places and opportunities we enjoy.

To help us create this vision, we are engaging with residents to hear about their thoughts, preferences and priorities. We are eager to hear from a variety of stakeholders with diverse experiences, understandings and knowledge regarding community needs and desires as they relate to open spaces, recreation and culture.

We hope you will find an opportunity to share your experiences hopes and suggestions about these services and how each could evolve and change to better meet the needs of your community today and in the future.

What comes next?

Between March 10, 2020 and April 5, 2020, Wheatland County invites you, your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to share your thoughts, priorities and preferences. There will be multiple opportunities to be involved. Find the right one for you.

Wheatland County Council and staff will consider information and feedback collected through this engagement process to help inform the development of an Open Space, Recreation and Culture Master plan that will support the needs of the community through to 2030.

We will continue working with you to build a community-informed plan into the future for a bigger and better Wheatland County. See you out there!
